Daksum was a wild card.
I was looking for a place with forest and not many tourists. So I somehow came up with Daksum. Not much information in internet about the place.
We were happy to find a tourist bungalow only to be told that we should have booked it in advance over internet. Since no-one else had booked either the caretaker relents, spells our names to someone in Delhi and lets us in. Meals are not included but the main thing is that there's an option to get a meal. There's also a small eating place across the street.
We spend two nights, during daytime walking randomly on the paths around the village. Coming out of the forest the first day we meet a man who tells us that we should not go there alone and need a permit and a guide. Good to know. Walk the other way the next day. Meet some locals. Two men carrying a stone and a group of women washing by the stream.
A peaceful and cool break between Srinagar and Jammu. Totally worth it.
