from Bica da Cana to Encumeada

We have a very windy night but this is something we should have guessed from the herd of windmills.
I'm too lazy to get up before sunrise which means I most probably miss some beautiful scenes. When I finally do go out, the windmills appear and disappear through thick purple clouds.
The first half of today's trail is dreamily foggy and very quiet. My favorite trail so far. We go mostly down so an easy one as well.
Before evening we reach the area that burned this summer. About 5700 hectares of forest was destroyed by fire. That's 6% of the island. Partly changing climate, partly negligence of people are to be blamed.  Trees grow back but not the nests of storm petrels.
Fire-affected trails are closed trails. No Pico Ruivo for us.
Since all nearby campsites were full we stay in a hotel in Encumeada, a bit down from the trail.
