Northmavine trek, the start

We eat a hearty English breakfast, leave some of our things in the hotel and catch a bus to Mavis Grind.
Mavis Grind is a place where one can throw a stone from the Atlantic Ocean to the North Sea. We don’t try it. Instead we pull on rain gear and trot into the unknown. The ground is covered in sheep shit. No real trail, just have to follow the coastline.
Shetland has 2702 km of coastline and we intend to follow about 200 km of it. Despite the rain the landscape is stunning. I see some flowers that I have never seen before. A gray seal watches us from the shallow water and hares escape along the hillsides.
A pause in the rain is good for a quick coffee and snack. It stays without rain then quite some time. The further we go, the stronger the wind and steeper the crevices.
Finally it starts to rain again and we pick a place to stay near Gunnister. Inside some stone ruins for wind shelter, close to a stream. Or burn. Sheep discuss something outside, maybe our unexpected presence in their toilet ground. Rain gets heavier.
